On Saturday, we briefly discussed social bookmarking and RSS feeds—both are tools you can incorporate into widgets in your blog’s sidebars. We will learn how to do this on March 22, but here are two great articles from Will Richardson about these topics:
-
“Taming the Beast: Social Bookmarking”—short, very readable, and informative—good ideas here!
-
“Merrily Down the Stream: RSS Feeds”—again, informative and inspirational in a short sitting!
If you want to experiment with subscribing to RSS feeds, you can use the little orange button in IE. Just type in the following URLs and click the orange button. You should then get the option to add the feed. You can only see it on that particular computer, but if you use your laptop regularly, then that is an easy way to subscribe to a feed.
I am going to show you how to collect RSS feeds for your favorite blogs using Google Reader on March 22, but you can take a peek and be adventuresome if you feel like playing with it. Here is a link to the “Tour of Google Reader” site, too.
OK…here are the RSS feeds of the day!
If you get a chance to experiment, let us know about it on the blog! Also, let me know if any of our links are broken. Thanks!

If researchers post their findings on a blog, then it could be compiled and used as documentation. I enjoyed the class, but I am a bit overwhelemed. I think I can make it work for my K class and I am excited about it. Thanks for all of your hard work! rebecca
I agree…wouldn’t that be cool? It would also open up a whole new world of scholarly research to more people who may not be attached to a school or college…so much of the good stuff requires a library subscription and is password protected, plus expensive for libraries to purchase.
Feeling overwhelmed is very normal at this point! I felt the same way when I started, too. I think we can make it work for your K class, too—I will work hard on finding some additional resources for you and your little pumpkins.
Thank YOU for being such a fabulous member of our class!

I am thinking of adding a blogging component to my capstone where they wrote comments about each others’ photo stories. I think they would love it and I can’t wait to start having them be in charge of summing up the week for us. I can’t wait to tidy up my site and get it up and running- I think it will really improve communication! thanks!
I think that is a FABULOUS idea! How cool would that be!!! I know they would be so proud to have that important “job” or responsibility to be the one to sum up the week!
I love how you are taking all of this and just running with it! How inspiring!
If you need any help, just drop me an email.
